And so it was, with great pomp, circumstance and not a little ceremony, that The Canonbury Tavern, that much loved local hostelry, after much ‘would they or wouldn’t they’ antics and a campaign against the garden area and the paving thereover, finally came to open once more yesterday on what could only be deemed a perfect evening for it.
Disappointingly, I had to be somewhere else – though that other somewhere (The Duke of Wellington on St Paul’s Road) was not entirely without merit since tomorrow sees the start of its beer festival which runs until Sunday, I believe.
And, for the record, I can heartily recommend Sambrooks Wandle Ale at 3.8% for a school night. The great Sambrook himself (Duncan) will be giving a talk tomorrow at 8 to kick off proceedings for those interested in the possibility of brewing beer in the heart of London.
